Gallery Policies
The following is a detailed description of the display policy
and the proposal process for the Gallery in the Conexus Visual
Arts Centre. Please read the description thoroughly and apply in
writing to the address listed below, or phone 306-693-4700 for
further details.

The Moose Jaw Cultural Centre Art Gallery is now soliciting
proposals for exhibitions of the broadest range of visual art or
craft produced by Moose Jaw and region artists. Certain criteria
must be met. Proposals will be evaluated based upon those
criteria. Exhibitions will be scheduled for 6 week
durations depending upon the time of year.
Deadlines for exhibition proposals shall be January 1st and July 1st of each
year.
GALLERY POLICY
The mandate of the Cultural Centre Gallery is to exhibit the
broadest range of visual art or craft produced by Moose Jaw* and
region artists. This space is meant to provide a place for
artists
and arts groups to exhibit and showcase what the people of Moose
Jaw produce.
How to Make a Proposal for an Exhibition The work has to be
completed before proposal for the exhibition is made. Please
submit slides, photographs or digital documentation of the art
work, a written statement about the exhibition, a resume or
biographical detail about the artist or group of
artists, a list of the work that would be exhibited with titles,
sizes, medium and date.
Proposals must arrive at the Cultural Centre prior to the
deadline of January 1st and July 1st each year.
How are Exhibitions Selected?
The staff at the Cultural Centre uses a checklist to evaluate
each exhibition proposal. If all the criteria are met, the staff
schedules the exhibition. Exhibitions are scheduled for 6 week
durations depending upon the time of year.
The staff will not make aesthetic judgments about the quality of
the art work proposed for exhibition. The staff will not
schedule exhibitions if there are issues relating to safety,
appropriateness of subject matter, or the amount of work
appropriate for the exhibition space. If there are additional
concerns about an exhibition then the staff will seek advice
from the Board of Directors Gallery Committee A Gallery
Committee will be organized to work in teams to help with the
hanging of the exhibitions, co-ordination of the opening
receptions and marketing of the exhibitions.
Payment of Artist Fees and Sales:
The Cultural Centre will not
pay artists' fees. Sales of work during an exhibition or
directly resulting from an exhibition at the Cultural Centre
will be subject to a 30% commission fee. Frequency of
Exhibitions Individual artists will only be able to have a solo
or small (2-3 artist) group exhibition once every two years.
Groups will only be able to have an exhibition once every two
years.
* Moose Jaw artists may also be artists who are connected to
Moose Jaw
(i.e. visiting artist at the Cultural Centre; grew up in
Moose Jaw, etc.)
